Highlights of Manas (mind) in Vedas:

In Yajurveda,  the Manas has been conceptualized as the inner flame of knowledge. It is a tool to perceive knowledge. All the sensory organs are under control of mind.
In Rigveda, references about speed of mind, methods of mental happiness, special invocation for mental happiness and methods of increasing Medha (intelligence) have been described. Purity of mind is given special emphasis with a statement that it can prevent diseases in human beings. The healing power of mind has also been described. Sattva, Rajas and Tamas- the three characteristics of mind are narrated. The mental disorders are given equal importance with physical illness. It has been prayed to prevent destruction of body by mental factors.

History of Manasa (mind) and Manasa Roga (Psychiatry) in Indian system

All begins with a history..without knowing the origin one cant grow...Therefore lets get started with the history..The questions come to our mind are :

1.Whether the ancient Indian wisdom has its own view about human psyche???
2.Whether the Indian ancestors have studied the complex phenomena of psychology and functions of mind??
3.If they have came across the same psychiatric problems...the entire world is facing today???

And the answer to all these questions is a big Yes...

Starting from Veda,Upanishads to Mahabharat to Ayurvedic classics, many references are available that indicate the ancient Indian wisdom studied psychology and psychiatry well in detail..
